Audlem Baptist Church Online Service for the
21st December 2025

A Series in Colossians
By Richard Holmes

This is the second service in the series.

Book of Colossians Summary | Christianity.com

This Week’s Title is “Jesus Over All”

Welcome and Introduction

Our online services during Advent, Christmas and the first few weeks of New Year will follow the same path as the in-person services.  This means that they will be a mix of the ‘Unwrapping the Names of Christmas’ from the church in California and a series from Colossians from our good friend Richard Holmes.

This week the online service is a ‘replay’ of the in-person service on December 14th.

Hymn:  All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name

AI-generated content may be incorrect. This is a great hymn of praise and works well for our theme of “Jesus Over All”.  It is sung by Kristyn Getty and has very similar words to the ones we sang in church, but the beat and rhythm is much more ‘dynamic’ than we could manage!

Readings:  Isaiah 53 and Colossians 1:3-20

Two readings this week.  The Old Testament reading is the well known passage from Isaiah 53 often referred to as ‘The Suffering Servant’, which foresees the time when God himself comes to rescue us.
Click here to open the passage in the current tab.

Now please read verses 3 to 20 of Colossians chapter 1.  This includes the verses Richard preached on last time as well as placing in context the verses that he will speak about this week.

Hymn:  When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

I have chosen another video sung by Kristyn Getty for this hymn, but this time, given the lyrics, sung much more reflectively.

Advent Video

I like to include a short Advent video in the December services.  This one tells the story of Jesus earthly life from beginning to end as a ‘light trail’.

Our Own Prayers

AI-generated content may be incorrect.I realise that I use these words every week to guide your thoughts and I still think they are a helpful summary.

As you watched the message today was there a moment when you sensed the Holy Spirit speaking directly to you?  Then tell Jesus about it.  Or maybe you simply had a ‘lightbulb’ moment which you would like to thank God for.

Spend a few moments to thank God for all his goodness to you in the last week.

Spend a few minutes in confession.

Take a few minutes to pray for others who you feel burdened for.  If you have received the Church email, it will give you some suggestions.

Now spend a few moments praying for the fellowship of the church to which we belong and its witness to friends, family, neighbours, the young and the old, and to the wider world.

Hymn:  Hallelujah, Sing to Jesus

AI-generated content may be incorrect. This hymn was Richard’s choice to close.  This is one of those hymns for which different videos have verses with different words.  I have selected a video that has the same verses as Mission Praise, which we used in the in-person service last week.

A Closing Prayer

Thank you Father for Paul’s words brought to us today.  Now may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship and support of the Holy Spirit be with us all.  We claim your promise that you will never forsake us and that surely you will be with us always, to the very end of the age.

Amen.
