Ezekiel

This is the third service in this series.

The Covenant God Keeps

Welcome and Introduction

Like our previous series, these sermons come from Chichester Baptist Church.  They are right up to date.

Although Ezekiel lived six hundred years before Christ, there are a lot of parallels between the situation he faced then and our own day.  This six week series will give us much to think about as we try to make sense of “where is God in all the events around the world that fill our television news and our social media?”

Song:  Some May Trust in Horses

In this series I have tried to use the same hymns that were used in Chichester before and after the message.  So this song is their choice for our opening song.

Bible Passage and the Message:  The Covenant God Keeps

This message is from January this year.

The video contains a Bible reading from Ezekiel chapter 16, starting at verse 1.  If you have a Bible or Bible app to hand, please find this passage when you start the video.

This week Ian Crossley once again brings the message.

Click the filmstrip icon below to start watching the YouTube video.  It should start automatically at about 49 minutes into the complete service.

It takes about a minute for the sound people to get the volume right.  Please set your volume high at the start and wait for it to be corrected.  (Or turn on subtitles as explained below).

I suggest that you stop the video when Ian hands over to the band for their final song.  We will watch a video of the song that he referred to.

Click here to watch the video.

You can adjust the YouTube settings using the controls at the bottom right of the screen.  The gear wheel on the left adjusts the quality (480 may be enough) and the box frame on the right shows the video full screen.   New! YouTube will display Subtitles by toggling the control indicated by the red arrow

Hymn:  O, For A Thousand Tongues to Sing

This is the hymn that Ian mentioned and that they had sung earlier in the service.

Our Own Prayers

As you watched the message today was there a moment when you sensed the Holy Spirit speaking directly to you?  Then tell Jesus about it.  Or maybe you simply had a ‘lightbulb’ moment which you would like to thank God for.

Spend a few moments to thank God for all his goodness to you in the last week.

Spend a few minutes in confession.

Take a few minutes to pray for others who you feel burdened for.  If you have received the Church Email, it will give you some suggestions.

Now spend a few moments praying for the fellowship of the church to which we belong and its witness to friends, family, neighbours, the young and the old, and to the wider world.

Please pray for our “Film Nights at ABC” which started three weeks ago.  During February and March we will show every episode from Series One of “The Chosen”.  Pray that the Holy Spirit will prompt many people to come and watch.  The portrayal of Jesus is so powerful that it is almost impossible not to be affected.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Our world today is full of people who put their faith in their own power or wealth or talents or abilities.

We thank you for your unwavering faithfulness and your promise to be a covenant-keeping God.

We trust in your steadfast love, knowing that you will never break your word to us.

Guide our steps, strengthen our resolve to follow your path, and grant us the grace to always remain faithful to the covenant we share with you. In Jesus' name,

Amen.
